Art has been my passion my entire life. As a kid it was making mud pies in the backyard with my sister, creating "multimedia" doodles of whales with band-aids, and getting up early to watch Pappy Land. Anyone remember that show? It was awesome. In middle school I went to an art camp at a local university during the summers where I took a variety of art classes, but my favorite was always photography. I remember learning how to develop prints in the darkroom and thought it was the coolest thing. When I was 14 I got my first real (SLR) camera. My grandfather's '73 Minolta to be exact (you know, the heavy-duty metal kind that were virtually indestructible), and it was then that my interest in photography grew to love...or obsession. When I went to college I really started to find a focus for my creative ambitions. Photography and graphic design took leading roles in my studies and I have become fascinated by them.
I was born and raised in South Carolina, but moved to Chattanooga, TN after marrying the love of my life. When I'm not busy photographing, I’m finding new hobbies and projects to delve into, spending time outdoors with my husband, and enjoying great music.

I go to church with Rachel and Peyton. It makes me realize just how quickly time flies when it seriously seems like just yesterday I was moving into my dorm freshman year, and now it’s Rachel’s turn. Peyton, who is only one year behind Rachel, will be graduating high school this May and plans to head off to the same college as Rachel next fall. So, before Rachel headed halfway across the country to begin school, we had a sibling/high school senior photo session. It was fun to get to know them a little better and hear of all their plans for the future. Rachel, I hope you have an awesome freshman year. Lots of great memories are about to be made. Those were some of the best years of my life. Peyton, good luck with football this season and have a great senior year!
I don’t usually tend to change a whole lot of photos into black and white but a couple of the locations we used for this session really lent themselves well to it. I love all the texture!
Over the past few years I’ve really been searching for ways that I can use my talents as a artist to give back to my community. I want to make a difference, I want to do good, I want to make an impact on the lives around me. Sometimes I come up with these crazy, elaborate ideas that get me so excited that I can’t sleep at night. Unfortunately, reality always seems to creep in, I get busy and the plans never come to fruition. So, until I find the time and manpower to make all these dreams a reality, I’ve been looking out for opportunities that may already exist. Last summer I heard about a program that brings photographers and foster children together to help find them permanent homes. The program is called Heart Gallery of America and it is a photographic and audio exhibit showcasing the sweet faces and personalities of children in need of a loving family. Photographers come and take portraits of the local foster children and prints are made and exhibited in the community. At last year’s event I had the privilege of meeting 11 year old Vincent. We went off and had a little photo session together and he told me about what subjects he likes in school and that he loves football. By the end of the shoot he was coming up with his own poses, picking out the spot for his next photos, and bringing me around to meet all of his friends and having me show them his pictures. It was a blast. A few weeks ago I got to meet three more awesome kids, take their portraits, and hear their stories. If you are a photographer, I highly recommend you finding out about the Heart Gallery in your area. If there isn’t one already, look into starting your own branch.
Again this year, I am sad that I am not allowed to share the photos I took of the kids I worked with. Privacy reasons won’t let me. Just know that they are precious. 🙂

These two got married at Camp Thunderbird under the shade of a gorgeous new pavilion overlooking Lake Wylie. I had never shot a wedding there before but it turned out to be a really great spot. Lots of trees, a light breeze, and lots of smiles and love. Priscilla and Jeremy, thank you so much. You were such a sweet couple to work with. Congratulations you two!

Before Jeremy and Priscilla headed off for their honeymoon they wanted to launch some of these awesome floating lanterns. I had actually never seen them before so I was excited to watch. Sadly, we didn’t have quite the right weather conditions so the lanterns failed to lift off…but the process of attempting was very entertaining. 😉

If you saw my recent post of Amanda and Boo’s maternity shoot, then you know that I just recently made a trip out to Oklahoma. However, before arriving in Oklahoma, Amanda and I met up to photograph a wedding together in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Amanda will be posting some of her shots from the wedding soon on her blog so be sure to keep your eye out for that. Despite the heat that is ever present for summer weddings here in the south, it was such a beautiful day. Brittany and Bradford, thanks so much for letting me be a part of your special day!
(I don’t have any shots of the guys together because Amanda shot them while I went back to the church with the girls to finish up their photos. So…again, don’t forget to check out Amanda’s blog!)
The reception was held in the Movie Star Restaurant that Brittany’s mom co-owns. It was so cool on the inside with vintage signs and trinkets everywhere.

After having to reschedule a couple of times due to weather, etc, the Kelleys and I were finally able to meet up for a little photo session of baby Merritt…seriously one of the cutest babies I have ever seen. Just look at all that hair! He’s only a few months old and has already had multiple haircuts. We met pretty early in the morning so we could finish up before it got too hot outside and Merritt persevered like a little tough guy, especially since we were shooting right in the middle of his usual morning nap time.
