It’s always such an honor (and a total blast, I might add) to photograph Amanda and Boo…and the brainstorming and planning that takes place beforehand is just as fun. Amanda and I tend to try to come up with these elaborate ideas but then realize that most of those ideas wouldn’t be possible without a large stage crew, months of preparation, and lots of assistants.  Needless to say, with an 8 month old, and me living halfway across the country, those huge ideas just aren’t possible…for now anyway.  So, we narrowed it down to two much more achievable options.  I like to call them “Barefoot with a Baby on the Hip” (although they didn’t actually turn out being barefoot) and “French Countryside.”  🙂

Thanks for another awesome trip to Oklahoma.  Love you guys!

At this point, Evie was done being a camera diva (turns out she had an ear infection…also, it was past her bedtime) so we put her to bed (with the help of our good friend, Jenny!) Then Boo and Amanda had a little photo session of their own. Yes, this awesome location is their backyard.

After my trip to Texas to visit baby Ashley and family, I headed to Oklahoma to meet my other “niece,” Evie for the first time. For those of you who follow my blog on any sort of regular basis, then you are familiar with Evie’s mom, Amanda.  After 8 months, I was so excited to finally get my hands on her.  By the second day I was there, Evie, Amanda, and I had all come down with various illnesses, but that didn’t stop us from making a trip to the zoo and having a blast hanging out around town.  We also had a family photo shoot one evening, which I’m really excited to share in the next few days, but for now, here’s a few from Evie’s playtime with Aunt Kim while mommy photographed a wedding. 🙂

Reading one of her new books I brought along. Hehe. I’m a sucker for buying baby books and baby clothes. Watch out girls, your Aunt Kim will spoil you rotten.

I realized today that I’ve had a full month hiatus from my blog.  In my defense, I have been on the road for the large majority of the past month and a half.  I haven’t been home for more than a few days at a time, and the traveling isn’t over yet!  It’s been a crazy whirlwind lately, but I’ve been having a blast!  The end of May marked the beginning of (what feels like) my vagabond existence as I finally got to fly down to Texas to visit my best friend and her sweet little baby, Ashley, whom I lovingly refer to as my niece.  We had so much fun just taking it easy and hanging out around the house…which led to lots of photos, of course. I’m so glad to finally have a chance to sit down and share some photos from our week together.

Last year my sister spent some time in Cameroon, Africa volunteering with Rudec, an organization geared toward promoting community development and health awareness (as a matter of fact, she’s actually there again for a couple of months to do follow-up work) . During her first trip there she brought back this precious little African dress for Ashley.

…I think she was wondering what was so funny (as her mother and I were laughing hysterically)

I am so excited to finally announce that I will be teaming up with The Light Factory in Charlotte this August for a week-long workshop geared toward aspiring professional photographers.  This project has been in the works for a while now and we’ve finally worked out all of the details. For those of you who are not familiar with The Light Factory, it is a contemporary museum of photography and film, and also offers a variety of classes and workshops for adults. The workshop that I will be conducting will focus on the business of modern portrait photography and will cover everything you need to know to get started on your own. We’ll discuss networking tips, how to interact with clients, workflow, conducting a successful shoot in any situation, and so much more. And most importantly, there will be a lot of hands on instruction, because the best way to learn is to just get out there and practice!
