My mom recently forwarded me an email filled with quotes by Maya Angelou, one of which really stuck out in my mind after photographing Caitlin and Dustin’s wedding. “I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.” They had a beautiful wedding planned at a dairy barn nestled amongst rolling hills and horse pastures. Sadly, their wedding day was also the day the first set of severe storms swept through the south, spawning tornadoes, damaging winds, and baseball size hail. The thunder started just in time for the ceremony. However, we were lucky enough to take a few quick family photos, a group shot of the wedding party, and a few of Caitlin and Dustin together (as I watched lightning flash across the clouds) before the hail began. With everything going on outside, Caitlin and Dustin managed to keep smiles on their faces and didn’t let the weather get them down, and I respected them so much for that. At least it will make for great stories one day!

I was just about to take a goofy shot of one of Caitlin’s bridesmaids stuffing her face with a sandwich, but snapped the shutter right as Caitlin was picking up a ribbon, so my shot didn’t turn out as expected…it was much better. Haha!

These girls were cracking me up!

We headed inside to take some more photos without the fear of being struck by lightning…

A lull in the storm…

Because the outside tent area with the dance floor got flooded during the storm, the guys cleared away the tables and chairs after dinner and brought the party inside…

Caitlin’s dad is blind but you would never know by the way he swept her across the dance floor.

Dustin’s dad could play a mean air guitar…
