5 Years Later

Five years ago, some college friends of mine asked me to photograph their wedding. I was already doing photography professionally, but not weddings.  The thought terrified me.  I mean, photographing someone’s wedding is a big deal! What if everything is running behind and I have 5 minutes to photograph the wedding party…or I miss a really important moment…or I accidentally reformat at memory card mid-ceremony…or we run out of available light for the family pictures…or or or… But I told them yes anyway.  And I was nervous for the next seven months.

September came around and I hopped on the plane from Charlotte to Nashville with my camera backpack that apparently made me look like I was about to climb Everest (Seriously. An airport employee made a joke about it…and I never used it again. Sold it on ebay to a guy in Norway and replaced it with a much cooler Dakine bag, that I still love and recommend to everyone.  I digress…)

Amanda and Jason got married on a gorgeous fall day, in her backyard, just before sunset, by an old barn with antique cars in the back.  I seriously don’t know how I got that lucky.  It was a photographer’s dream. To this day, their wedding is one of my favorites that I have ever photographed.

The next day, I flew home and met my future husband for the first time. Although, it would be nearly 3 years before we started dating, and another year before we were married.  Five years later, all four of us have ended up in Chattanooga. Life is crazy sometimes.
